What to expect

Your sessions, step by step

Clinical Pilates at FM Physio is never a generic class. Here is how your care actually works.

1

Initial assessment

We assess your posture, movement patterns and any injuries so we understand exactly what your body needs before you start moving.

2

A personalised plan

Your physiotherapist builds a custom clinical Pilates programme around your pain, your goals and your starting point, on the mat or using reformer equipment.

3

Ongoing progression

Sessions evolve as you get stronger and more confident, so you keep building deep core strength and control without plateauing.

4

Education and support

We teach you how to move well outside the studio too, so the results carry into everyday life and stay with you long term.

1:1Led by a chartered physio
The FM Physio difference

Physio-led, not just fitness

The thing that separates clinical Pilates here is who is in the room with you. Every session is led by a chartered physiotherapist who has assessed your body first, understands the injury or weakness behind your pain, and adjusts each movement to you, not a fixed routine for a crowd. That is why it works for rehab when a general class would not.

Why us

Why our clinical Pilates gets results

Anyone can run a Pilates class. Retraining a body so pain stops coming back takes diagnosis, progression and a plan. That is the difference here.

Rehab-focused

We treat your entire movement system, not just symptoms, so your body works with you rather than against you.

Tailored to you

Every programme is built around your body, your injuries and your goals, then progressed only when you are ready.

Deep core strength

We build the deep, lasting stability that protects your spine and joints, far beyond surface-level fitness.

Posture and alignment

We retrain how you hold and move your body, which is often the root cause of recurring back and neck pain.

Backed by science

Our approach is evidence-based and delivered by experienced clinicians, not a generic fitness protocol.

1:1 or small group

Choose fully personalised one-to-one sessions or closely supervised small groups, whichever suits you best.

Clinical Pilates FAQs

What is clinical Pilates?

Clinical Pilates is a physiotherapy-led form of Pilates that focuses on controlled movement, deep core strength, posture and joint stability. Unlike a general fitness class, it is led by a chartered physiotherapist and tailored to your body, your injuries and your goals, which makes it well suited to rehab and long-standing pain.

Is clinical Pilates suitable for beginners?

Yes. Every session starts with an assessment and a plan built around your current ability, so you do not need any Pilates experience or a particular level of fitness. The movements are scaled to you and progressed only when you are ready.

What conditions can clinical Pilates help with?

It is particularly effective for chronic lower back pain, neck and shoulder tension, poor posture and post-injury rehab such as disc issues, rotator cuff problems and hip pain. It is also used to build strength and control for older adults, office workers and athletes wanting to reduce injury risk.

How is clinical Pilates different from regular Pilates?

Regular Pilates is a general fitness class for a group. Clinical Pilates is delivered by a physiotherapist who assesses you first, targets the specific weakness or movement issue behind your pain, and adjusts every exercise to your body rather than a fixed routine.

How many sessions will I need?

It depends on your goals and starting point. Some people come for a focused block of rehab, others continue longer term to maintain strength and stay pain-free. Your physiotherapist will set out a realistic plan after your first session.

Do you offer 1:1 sessions or group classes?

Both. We offer one-to-one clinical Pilates for fully personalised rehab, and small-group sessions for a more affordable option with close supervision. Your physiotherapist will recommend the right format for you.

What should I wear or bring?

Wear comfortable clothing you can move freely in, such as leggings or shorts and a t-shirt. Sessions are done barefoot or in grip socks. We provide all the equipment, including mats and reformer where used.

How much is it?

New patients can start with an introductory clinical Pilates appointment from £35 for 30 minutes, which includes assessment and a tailored plan. You can book online or call 0151 601 1481.
