Gait Analysis
in Liverpool
Fed up not running at your best? A specialist running assessment that gets to the root of recurring injuries.
Treadmill gait analysis, strength and mobility testing and a progressive rehab plan, delivered by chartered physiotherapists.
Your specialist running assessment
Not a quick look on a treadmill. A complete screen of how you move, how strong you are and where your injury risk really comes from.
How your assessment works
Up to 79% of runners pick up a lower limb injury at some point, and most are from overuse, not bad luck. Here is how we change that.
Biomechanical screening
We assess your movement, strength and mobility to understand how your body handles the demands of running and where it breaks down.
Treadmill gait analysis
We film and analyse your run to study foot strike, stride rate and movement patterns, using data points such as ground reaction forces.
Shoe analysis
We check whether your current trainers suit your gait and goals, so your footwear supports your running rather than working against it.
Your report and rehab plan
We send you a PDF setting out all the findings from your assessment, with a clear, progressive plan of the exercises you need to fix the issue and build a more robust runner. Everything in one place, so you know exactly what to do.
See exactly what you get
After your assessment we send you a detailed PDF. It flags what is driving your symptoms and gives you a clear plan to fix it. Here is a real example.
What it means, in plain English
Each finding is explained clearly, with the impact on your body and exactly how to correct it, so nothing is left as jargon.
A clear plan to fix it
Every issue comes with the muscles to strengthen and the cues to work on, forming the progressive plan you follow between sessions.
Run further on the same effort
Evidence suggests runners can become meaningfully more efficient when foot strike and stride rate are refined. That means less wasted energy, less load through vulnerable tissue and the ability to sustain effort for longer. Our goal is to reduce ground reaction forces using real data, so you do not just run injury-free, you run better than you did before.
Why our running assessment gets results
Recurring running injuries rarely fix themselves. Breaking the cycle takes diagnosis, strength work and a plan built around how you actually run.
Reduce injury risk
We combine a detailed musculoskeletal assessment with your running analysis to find and address what is driving repeat injuries.
Increase performance
We work on the intrinsic and extrinsic factors behind your running, from work capacity to range of motion and endurance.
Build a robust runner
The aim is a runner who can handle higher volume, with the strength and resilience to train hard and stay healthy.
Evidence-based methods
We use measurable data points rather than guesswork, so changes to your gait are grounded in what actually works.
We treat the cause
Injuries often stem from previous problems or incomplete rehab. We finish the job so you do not end up back where you started.
Chartered physios
Your assessment is delivered by chartered, HCPC-registered physiotherapists with real clinical and running expertise.
Gait analysis FAQs
What is gait analysis?
Gait analysis is a detailed assessment of how you move when you walk and run. At FM Physio we combine treadmill video analysis with a biomechanical screen and strength testing to understand your foot strike, stride and movement patterns, then use that to reduce injury risk and improve how efficiently you run.
What does a running assessment include?
A full running assessment includes treadmill gait analysis, a biomechanical and trainer screen, strength and mobility testing of the glutes, hamstrings and calves, an injury risk report and a progressive rehab plan tailored to your goals.
Who is gait analysis for?
It suits any runner, from someone training for their first Park Run to an experienced marathon runner. It is especially useful if you keep picking up the same injuries, are returning from injury, or want to run faster and more efficiently.
Can gait analysis reduce my injury risk?
Yes. By assessing your movement alongside strength and load, we identify the patterns and weaknesses behind recurring injuries and address them directly. Most running injuries are caused by overuse, incomplete rehab or a sudden jump in training volume rather than bad luck.
Will gait analysis make me a faster runner?
Improving how you move can make you more efficient, and evidence suggests refining foot strike and stride rate can improve running efficiency for some runners. We use data points such as ground reaction forces to help you run more economically and sustain effort for longer.
Do I need to bring my running shoes?
Yes, bring the trainers you usually run in, as your footwear forms part of the assessment. We also include a shoe analysis to check whether your current trainers suit your gait and goals.
Do I get a report afterwards?
Yes. We send you a PDF after your assessment that sets out all the findings, along with a clear, progressive plan of the exercises you need to fix the issue. It means you leave with everything documented in one place rather than trying to remember it all.
Do I need a referral?
No GP referral is needed. You book a running assessment directly, online or by phone, and a chartered physiotherapist carries out the full screen and builds your plan.
How much is it?
A specialist running assessment starts from £75 and includes gait analysis, strength and mobility testing, an injury risk report and a rehab plan. You can book online or call 0151 601 1481.
