Told to just live with the pain?
Too many people with arthritis are told there is nothing to do but wait, take painkillers, or eventually have surgery. That is not true. Strong evidence shows that exercise-based physiotherapy is one of the most effective treatments for osteoarthritis, recommended as a first-line approach before surgery.
We hear this from people with arthritis across Liverpool:
- Joint pain and stiffness, especially first thing in the morning
- Pain on stairs, walking, or getting out of a chair
- Joints that feel weak or give way
- Worried that exercise will wear the joint out faster
- Avoiding activity, which makes things stiffer and weaker
- Waiting for surgery with no plan in the meantime
Movement is medicine for arthritis. The right loading keeps joints healthier, not worse.

Questions? We have got answers
Will exercise make my arthritis worse?
No, the opposite. The fear that exercise wears the joint out is one of the biggest myths about arthritis. The right kind of progressive loading keeps cartilage and joints healthier, reduces pain, and builds the muscle that supports the joint. Avoiding movement is what makes things stiffer and weaker.
Can physiotherapy help me avoid a joint replacement?
Often, yes. Exercise-based physiotherapy is recommended as a first-line treatment before surgery, and many people reduce their pain enough to delay or avoid joint replacement. If you do need surgery, being stronger beforehand improves your recovery.
Is arthritis just part of getting older?
Arthritis is common with age, but pain and disability are not inevitable. Plenty of people have joint changes on scans with little or no pain. How you move, load, and strengthen the joint makes a real difference to how it feels and functions.
Do I need a referral?
No referral needed. You can book directly. We also accept Simplyhealth and Medicash cash plans.
What should I wear?
Comfortable, loose clothing that allows movement and access to the affected joints. We use proper draping throughout, and your comfort is the priority.
What are your prices?
