Golf Physio physiotherapy at a Liverpool clinic

Pain creeping into your round?

Golf looks low impact, but the swing generates enormous rotational force through the spine, hips, and wrists, repeated hundreds of times a session. Over time that load finds the weak link, and a niggle becomes an injury that ruins your golf.

Common issues we see in golf athletes:

  • Lower back pain that builds over a round or the day after
  • Golfer's elbow on the inside of the lead or trail arm
  • Lead wrist pain from impact and the top of the backswing
  • Hip and groin tightness that limits your turn and rotation
  • Shoulder pain reaching the top of the backswing or follow-through
  • Loss of distance from restricted rotation or a protective swing

What we treat

Golf injuries we treat

We understand the specific demands of the sport and treat the injuries that come with it, including:

Golfer's and tennis elbow

Tendon pain on the inside or outside of the elbow from gripping and impact.

Lower back pain

The most common golf injury, from repeated rotation and side-bending.

Lead wrist pain

Wrist and thumb-side pain from impact and high swing volume.

Hip and groin issues

Restricted hip rotation that limits the turn and overloads the back.

Shoulder pain

Rotator cuff and shoulder pain through the backswing and follow-through.

Rib and trunk strains

Less common but seen with high-volume practice and swing changes.

Play better, longer

More distance, fewer injuries

Treating the injury is only half the job. We assess how your body moves through the swing, find the restrictions and weak links, and build the rotation and strength that protect you and add speed.

Rotation and mobility

We free up the hips and thoracic spine so you rotate from the right places, not your lower back.

Strength and speed

Targeted strength work that protects the back and can add clubhead speed.

Return to play

A graded return to practice and full rounds so the injury does not come straight back.

Our approach

How we treat golf injuries

Sport-specific assessment
We assess not just the painful area but how you move through the swing, looking at hip and thoracic rotation, wrist loading, and where your body is compensating.
Hands-on plus loading
Manual therapy to settle the pain, combined with a progressive strength and mobility programme built around the demands of the golf swing.
Movement and the swing
We identify the physical restrictions feeding into swing faults and injury, and work with your coach where helpful so the body and the technique match up.
Building rotation and speed
Golf physio is not just recovery. We build the rotation, stability, and strength that protect you and can add distance.
Return to the course
A graded return to practice volume and full rounds so you come back without the injury recurring.
Who this is for
Any golfer with pain that affects their game, recurring niggles, or who wants to move better and add distance without breaking down.

Questions? We have got answers

What is the most common golf injury?

Lower back pain is the most common, from the repeated rotation and side-bending of the swing. Golfer's elbow and lead wrist pain are also very common. All respond well to the right physio and load management.

Can physio help me hit the ball further?

Often yes. Restricted hip and thoracic rotation forces you to compensate and lose power. Freeing up that rotation and building strength can improve both how you feel and your clubhead speed.

Do I have to stop playing?

Usually not entirely. We typically modify your practice volume and which shots you hit while we treat the injury, rather than stopping golf completely.

Do I need a referral?

No referral needed. You can book directly. We also accept Simplyhealth and Medicash cash plans.

What are your prices?
