MMA Physio physiotherapy at a Liverpool clinic

Beaten up by training?

MMA and combat sports load the entire body, striking, grappling, wrestling, and the sheer volume of a hard camp. Joints take a battering, overuse injuries build, and old injuries flare. You need a physio who keeps you training, not one who benches you for weeks.

Common issues we see in mma athletes:

  • Shoulder injuries from grappling, posting, and submission positions
  • Knee pain from wrestling, kicking, and takedowns
  • Lower back pain from grappling, sprawling, and strength work
  • Neck strains from grappling and clinch work
  • Elbow, wrist, and finger injuries from grips and submissions
  • Hip and groin tightness that limits your kicks and guard

What we treat

MMA and Combat Sports injuries we treat

We understand the specific demands of the sport and treat the injuries that come with it, including:

Shoulder injuries

From grappling, posting, and overhead positions under load.

Knee pain and ligament strains

From wrestling, kicking, and takedown defence.

Lower back pain

From grappling, sprawling, and heavy strength training.

Neck strains

From clinch work and grappling exchanges.

Hand, wrist, and finger injuries

From grips, submissions, and striking load.

Hip and groin strains

From kicking, guard work, and explosive movement.

Train smart

Stay in the gym, not on the sidelines

A few weeks off can wreck a camp. We work to keep you training by modifying load around the injury, fixing the cause, and building the strength and mobility that protect you from the next one.

Modify, keep moving

We find what you can train safely, striking, drilling, or conditioning, while we treat the injury.

Build resilience

Targeted strength and mobility work that protects the joints combat sports batter.

Return to sparring

A clear, staged path back to full sparring and competition intensity.

Our approach

How we treat combat sports injuries

Sport-specific assessment
We assess the injury and the demands of your discipline, striking, grappling, wrestling, so the rehab matches what your training actually loads.
Hands-on plus loading
Manual therapy to settle the injury, combined with a progressive strength and mobility programme built for the joints and movements combat sports stress.
Train around it
Where it is safe, we modify your training rather than stopping it, so you keep skills and conditioning while you recover.
Building resilience
We address the strength, mobility, and control gaps that combat athletes commonly carry, to reduce how often you break down.
Return to sparring and competition
A graded return to full contact, sparring, and competition intensity so the injury holds up under pressure.
Who this is for
Any MMA, BJJ, boxing, Muay Thai, or wrestling athlete carrying an overuse or joint injury who wants to keep training and competing.

Questions? We have got answers

Do you treat fight injuries?

We treat the overuse, joint, and soft-tissue injuries that combat training causes, and rehab you back to full training and competition. For acute fractures, suspected concussion, or serious trauma, we will make sure you get the right urgent medical care first.

Can I keep training while injured?

Often yes, in modified form. We find what you can do safely, drilling, conditioning, or specific skill work, and scale the rest, so you keep fitness and skills while we treat the injury.

Can you help between or before fights?

Yes. We help manage niggles and load through a camp, and build the strength and mobility that protect you, so you arrive at fight night in the best shape possible.

Do I need a referral?

No referral needed. You can book directly. We also accept Simplyhealth and Medicash cash plans.

What are your prices?

A new patient assessment is £75 for 45 minutes, including a full assessment, hands-on treatment, and a clear plan.
